The Big Apple
Wednesday, August 30th, 2006Unbelievable…..NYC is the coolest place that I have been in the U.S. The city has so much history and neat things to see that it’s ridiculous. We barely scratched the surface in two days. We did the “hop on / hop off” bus tours and also took the Circle Line boat out to Ellis Island, Statue of Liberty and around Manhattan. Both tours gave us a good overview of the major landmarks and the role they played in the history of this country. Everything about NYC blew me away. I was expecting it to be dirty and smelly but it wasn’t and the people were friendly for the most part. We felt perfectly safe everywhere we went including walking the streets of Chinatown, downtown, Time Square, and using the subway. I like that you can go anywhere on the island on foot or via subway if needed. Even my drive through the Bronx and Queens was a breeze.
We were trying to get the NY eating experience while we were there. We had a New York Panini from a little deli off Times Square, hot dog from Gray Papaya, hot dog from a street vendor (possibly the best dog I’ve ever had), pizza from Joe’s Pizzeria off Times Square, and Bubba Gump Shrimp.
On top of all of that, we saw a Broadway show, The Lion King. Juhree loved it, and I thought that it was impressive.
We stayed at the Hilton Times Square on 42nd and 7th. The room was nice and the location was perfect. Juhree and I are definitely making NYC a preferred vacation spot.
